I’m Carmela, and I’d like to feed you.
Preparing food for others is one of my greatest joys. I specialize in desserts and custom cakes using seasonal ingredients and flavors. Everything is prepared from scratch in my home kitchen in downtown Mebane. My baking inspiration comes from my Italian heritage, from flavors I enjoy, from art and nature and books and architecture. I’ve honed my craft over many years and continue to learn every day.
I’m a culinary professional with over 25 years of baking experience. My work experience includes production baking, recipe development, production systems design and implementation, food styling, teaching, catering, and wedding cake design. I enjoy all aspects of baking (except sifting!): the math and science of recipe formulation, working with my hands, the creativity and artistry I get to express, the organizing and variety of tasks.
Some fun facts about me: I own more cake pans than anyone has a right to; I love washing dishes; I rarely sift flour; I never ever cool cookies or cakes on wire racks; I clean as I go; and I sing while I bake. My favorite color is moss green. I love anchovies, salt&vinegar potato chips, olives, and persimmons (the tall squishy kind, not the short crunchy ones). I’m proud to be the daughter of Italian immigrants and to carry on their traditions and their legacy of sharing homemade food with others.
